Heliatek GmbH develops organic solar cells and is headed to enter the industrial mass market. Due to its patented tandem- and triple cell technology, Heliatek is able to produce large, flexible, and very light photovoltaic modules on foil. Their vacuum technology allows an efficient and cost saving production.
On the one hand, this solution encounters future markets for mobile appliances, architectural challenges, and independent supply of areas with weak infrastructure. On the other hand, due to the cost saving and efficient production, system costs for photovoltaic installations can be lowered significantly.
Heliatek has already reached several efficiency records for organic solar cells. The last one was achieved in April 2010 with a certified degree of efficiency of 7.7% on an active area of 1.1cm2.
In 2009, eCAPITAL invested with its clean-tech funds eCAPITAL III in Heliatek. Additional investors are, among others, the BASF Venture Capital GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, RWE Innogy Ventures and Wellington Partners.
